Nedra Talley-Ross, the last surviving original member of The Ronettes, has died. She was 80.

The singer, who helped shape one of the most recognizable girl-group sounds of the 1960s, died at home on Sunday morning, according to her daughter, Nedra K. Ross. “At approximately 8:30 this morning our mother Nedra Talley Ross went home to be with the Lord,” her daughter wrote on social media. “She was safe in her own bed at home with her family close, knowing she was loved. Thank you Lord.”

An official cause of death has not been made public.

For fans of classic pop, the loss carries real weight. Talley-Ross was part of a trio whose harmonies, style and drama helped define an era.

The Ronettes Started As A Family Group

Talley-Ross was born in Manhattan in 1946. She began performing as a teenager alongside her cousins Ronnie Spector, born Veronica Bennett, and Estelle Bennett.

Ronnie formed The Ronettes in 1957, and the group soon began working local stages. They earned a residency at a club and later got a record deal, though their early singles did not chart.

Then came the call that changed everything.

In 1963, Estelle reportedly cold-called the office of producer Phil Spector, who was already known for a string of huge hits. According to Ronnie Spector’s memoir, the trio performed Frankie Lymon’s ‘Why Do Fools Fall In Love,’ and Spector immediately reacted.

“That’s the voice I’ve been looking for!” he reportedly said after jumping from the piano.

That moment helped push The Ronettes toward pop history.

Her Voice Helped Define A Classic Sound

The Ronettes became known for their towering hair, sharp style and huge vocals. They had the kind of presence that made them impossible to ignore.

Talley-Ross stood beside Ronnie and Estelle during the group’s most important years, helping create a sound that influenced generations of pop and rock artists.

Her death was also confirmed by the band’s official social media account.

“Nedra’s voice, style and spirit helped define a sound that would change music,” the statement read. “Her contribution to the group’s story and their defining influence will live forever. Rest peacefully dear Nedra. Thanks for the magic.”

Fans Remember The Last Ronette

Talley-Ross was the final surviving member of the original Ronettes lineup.

Ronnie Spector died in 2022, while Estelle Bennett died in 2009. With Talley-Ross’ death, a major chapter in girl-group history has fully closed.

Still, the music remains. The Ronettes’ influence can be heard across decades of pop, soul and rock, from vocal groups to stadium acts that borrowed their drama, rhythm and attitude.
