Britney Spears getting professional help has drawn a response from one person many did not expect to hear from so quickly: Kevin Federline. After reports said Spears voluntarily checked into a treatment facility, Federline’s attorney made it clear that Britney’s ex is backing the move and hopes she follows through.

The reaction matters because Britney and Kevin have not exactly been operating from a warm place for years. Their history is messy, public, and still emotionally loaded. They share two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, and when Britney’s life takes a hard turn, Kevin is still part of the wider family picture, whether fans like it or not.

Kevin Federline Says Britney Getting Help Is A Good Sign

“Kevin is aware of the reports that she has checked into rehab and that if she needs help, he is happy that she is getting help and that the decision appears to be one that she made and not one imposed upon her by others, if it was,” Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, said on Monday, April 13.

He added, “The key is that whatever the recommended treatment plan is that she follows it and completes it.”

That statement came just after a representative for Spears, 44, confirmed that the singer had voluntarily entered a treatment facility over the weekend. The update follows her March 4 arrest near her home in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence.

At the time, Spears’ rep called the incident “completely inexcusable” and said, “Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law, and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”

The rep also said, “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time. Her boys are going to be spending time with her. Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue, needed plan to set her up for success for well-being.”

The Britney And Kevin History Still Runs Deep

Kaplan had already commented after Britney’s arrest earlier this year, saying Kevin “hopes for the best” for his ex-wife. He also added, “If help is necessary, he hopes that she will neither resist it or those who are attempting to work with her. The concern is whether this is just a one-off or a one more.”

Britney and Kevin finalized their divorce in 2007 after three years of marriage. They married in October 2004, and she filed for divorce in November 2006, citing irreconcilable differences. Since then, the relationship between the exes has remained distant, and public friction has never been far away.

That tension flared again in October 2025 when Federline promoted his memoir, ‘You Thought You Knew,’ and defended his right to tell his side of the story. “Money’s not the root of this thing,” he said at the time. “I feel like, if she has the right to tell her story, why don’t I?”

Britney’s team clearly did not see it that way. So while Kevin’s latest comments may sound supportive, they also land inside a history filled with distrust, old wounds, and years of very public fallout.

For now, though, the focus is on Britney’s treatment and whether this difficult moment becomes a real turning point.
