In a surprise White House statement on Thursday, April 9, the first lady, Melania Trump, flatly denied ever having any personal connection to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

In a televised appearance, the first lady rejected claims that she had any relationship or meaningful dealings with Epstein or Maxwell. Her remarks appeared aimed at putting distance between herself and the long-running speculation surrounding Epstein’s social circle, a subject that remains highly charged because of the scale and seriousness of his crimes.

Her statement also comes as scrutiny around the so-called Epstein files continues to drive fresh public interest in anyone whose name has surfaced in related reporting, photographs, or past social connections.

Melania Trump Denies Any Personal Relationship With Epstein

During the statement, Melania said clearly that she was never friends with Epstein and never had a relationship with Maxwell. She also pushed back on suggestions that Epstein played any role in her meeting Donald Trump, describing those claims as false.

“To be clear, I never had a relationship with Epstein or his accomplice [Ghislaine] Maxwell,” she said.

Melania argued that any overlap with Epstein at social events was incidental and should not be interpreted as evidence of a personal bond. She also suggested that any communication with Maxwell was limited and polite in nature, rather than reflective of a friendship or ongoing connection.

In doing so, she sought to draw a firm distinction between being present in some of the same elite social settings and having any direct involvement with Epstein’s personal or criminal world.

She Says The Rumors Must End

Melania also condemned the continued circulation of claims linking her to Epstein, describing them as lies intended to damage her reputation. She said the people spreading such allegations lack “ethical standards, humility, and respect.”

Part of the reason the issue has persisted is the existence of old photographs showing Melania and Donald Trump in the same broader social orbit as Epstein and Maxwell years ago. Those images have repeatedly resurfaced online and helped keep the speculation alive, even as the Trumps have denied any deeper association.

Her statement took on a broader tone at the end, when she called for Congress to hold a public hearing so survivors of Epstein’s crimes could testify. That shift placed the focus back on the people most directly affected by Epstein, who was convicted in 2008 on Florida state charges involving a minor and later arrested in 2019 on federal sex-trafficking charges before dying in jail while awaiting trial.

Whether Melania’s remarks will quiet the discussion is unclear. But by addressing the matter from the White House, she made clear that she wanted to answer the allegations in the most public and formal way possible.
