NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs is reportedly facing a major career change shortly after his breakup with rapper Cardi B.
According to reports from CBS and several U.S. media outlets, the New England Patriots have informed Diggs that he will be released when the NFL’s new league year begins on March 11.
The move comes just one year after Diggs signed a three-year contract worth $63.5 million with the team during the previous offseason.
The news arrives amid a turbulent period in Diggs’ personal life. His relationship with Cardi B ended earlier this year following a whirlwind romance that lasted roughly a year.
Speculation about trouble in their relationship began circulating around the time of Super Bowl 2026, when an ESPN reporter asked Cardi if she had a message of encouragement for Diggs ahead of the game.
“Good luck,” the rapper reportedly said before quickly leaving the interview.
Shortly afterward, fans noticed the two had unfollowed each other on social media, fueling rumors of a breakup. Cardi later confirmed during a concert in Los Angeles that the couple had split.
The pair had made their relationship public in May of last year, and by September, Cardi revealed she was expecting her fourth child—her first with the NFL star.
The former couple welcomed a son in November, just weeks before the end of the NFL season.
Diggs’ release now adds another unexpected development to what has been a dramatic year both on and off the field for the wide receiver.
In addition to his newborn with Cardi, Diggs is also reported to have five other children with five different partners.
