Sienna Miller is speaking out about the lingering double standards surrounding relationships between older women and younger men.
The 44-year-old actress recently addressed the topic while discussing her personal life in an interview with Grazia. Miller has been in a relationship with actor Oli Green, who is 29, since late 2021, and the couple welcomed a daughter together in December 2023.
Miller is also a mother to a 13-year-old daughter from her previous relationship with actor Tom Sturridge.
In the interview, the American Woman star pushed back against the way society often views age-gap relationships when the woman is older.
“I remember auditioning at 21 to play the lover of a 45-year-old man,” she recalled. “We’ve come a long way since then, but the idea of an older woman with a younger man still feels fetishized rather than normalized. That needs to disappear.”
Miller suggested that while age differences between men and younger women have long been accepted in Hollywood, the reverse situation continues to attract unnecessary attention.
She also reflected on her early years in the spotlight and how her highly publicized relationship with actor Jude Law shaped public perceptions of her career.
After the two met on the set of Alfie in the early 2000s, Miller’s rapid rise to fame placed her under intense media scrutiny.
According to the actress, that attention sometimes overshadowed her work.
“There were assumptions made about me that had nothing to do with my abilities as an actor,” she said. “I was often portrayed as someone’s fashionable girlfriend instead of someone with her own career.”
Miller believes the media environment for women in the industry has improved somewhat since then, though she acknowledges that the scrutiny was far harsher during the early stages of her career.
Despite the challenges she’s faced over the years, the actress says she remains optimistic about the future.
“I’m ready for whatever comes next—the highs, the lows, and everything in between,” she said.
Miller is currently working on the upcoming film Madden, a biopic about legendary football coach John Madden. Directed by David O. Russell and starring Nicolas Cage, the movie is expected to arrive in theaters in November.
