Brenda Song once feared that her Disney Channel fame would permanently define her career—but today, she says she’s grateful that fear didn’t come true.

The 37-year-old actress, best known for playing London Tipton on The Suite Life franchise, recently reflected on the insecurity she carried into auditions long after leaving Disney. Promoting her new film Operation Taco Gary’s, Song admitted she often felt like casting directors still saw her as the bubbly teen character who made her famous.

One pivotal moment came while filming The Social Network. Song recalled asking director David Fincher why he had cast her, confessing that she worried her Disney past overshadowed her credibility. His response—that he wasn’t even aware of her Disney role and that talent in the room mattered more—helped shift her perspective. Still, she says it took time to fully believe she was more than a former child star.

Now, Song describes this stage of her life as both personally and professionally fulfilling. She has steadily built a diverse résumé, balancing streaming hits, independent films, and family life. A mother of two with partner Macaulay Culkin, she says navigating Hollywood feels different now—with clearer priorities and more confidence.

Looking back, Song believes the biggest hurdle wasn’t public perception, but her own self-doubt. Today, she sees herself simply as an actor—no longer defined by a single role, but by the range she continues to build.
