Nicki Minaj is making headlines again—but this time, it’s not about music. The rap superstar has publicly revealed that she now aligns with the Republican Party, saying a string of terrifying swatting incidents at her California home—and what she calls a lack of response from Governor Gavin Newsom—pushed her to make the switch.

According to Minaj, her family has endured multiple dangerous hoaxes over the years, including false emergency calls that sent armed officers rushing to her property. In one 2023 incident, police responded to a fabricated child abuse report while her young child was home. In another case, authorities were dispatched after a caller falsely claimed she had been shot. Even as recently as April 2025, sheriff’s deputies showed up at her Hidden Hills residence following a bogus assault report—despite her not being there at the time.

The Grammy-nominated artist says the repeated incidents left her feeling vulnerable and unheard. She has accused California leadership of failing to adequately address her safety concerns, singling out Newsom in a series of pointed social media posts. While the governor has not responded publicly to her criticism, Minaj insists that her attempts to seek help were ignored, fueling her frustration with Democratic officials.

In recent interviews, Minaj has drawn comparisons between her experiences and what she describes as unfair public treatment of former President Donald Trump. Speaking on The Katie Miller Podcast, she said watching what she considered “bullying” of Trump resonated with her own battles. That perspective, she explained, played a role in her decision to step more openly into conservative politics.

Her political shift became highly visible in late 2025 when she appeared at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, where she praised Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance. She later attended a Treasury Department-hosted event dubbed the “Trump Accounts Summit,” where she referred to herself as Trump’s “number one fan” and spoke about immigration-related matters tied to her own citizenship process.

The reaction from fans has been immediate and intense. While some supporters have applauded her for speaking out, others—particularly within the LGBTQ+ community—have expressed disappointment. Social media platforms lit up with debate, with reports of mass unfollows and online petitions circulating in protest. Despite the backlash, Minaj maintains that her political evolution stems from personal conviction shaped by her family’s safety concerns—not a publicity move.
