Joanna Cassidy is opening up about a surprising new chapter in her personal life—one that connects her to a late former co-star in an unexpected way.
During a recent appearance on the Still Here Podcast With Steve Kmetko, the 80-year-old Blade Runner actress revealed she is dating Alan Hamel, the widower of actress Suzanne Somers. Cassidy and Somers previously worked together on the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives, which also starred Candice Bergen, Stefanie Powers, and Angie Dickinson.
Cassidy admitted she hadn’t been actively dating for quite some time before meeting Hamel about a year ago. “I am dating someone,” she shared, noting that stepping back into the dating world felt unfamiliar at first. While initially hesitant to discuss details, citing her private nature, she ultimately confirmed Hamel’s identity, acknowledging his long marriage to Somers.
When asked whether the connection to her late co-star made things uncomfortable, Cassidy made it clear she feels at ease. “Not at all, not for me,” she said confidently. Somers, best known for Three’s Company and Step by Step, passed away in 2023 after a long battle with cancer. Now, Cassidy says this unexpected romance has become a meaningful new chapter in her life.
