Sarah Michelle Gellar is passing the Daphne torch with full approval. After news broke that Mckenna Grace will play Daphne in Netflix’s upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series, the original early-2000s Daphne had nothing but praise.
Following Deadline’s casting announcement, Gellar took to Instagram to cheer on Grace, writing, “You are going to be perfect!!” Gellar famously portrayed Daphne in the 2002 Scooby-Doo film and its 2004 sequel, Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, making her blessing a meaningful nod for longtime fans of the franchise.
Grace, who has built a strong résumé with roles in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Young Sheldon, will headline the eight-episode Netflix series as the stylish and fearless member of Mystery Inc. The project marks a fresh take on the beloved cartoon gang, bringing the supernatural sleuths back to live-action for a new generation.
The series, produced by Midnight Radio, Berlanti Productions, and Warner Bros. Television, reportedly landed at Netflix after a competitive bidding process and received a premium script-to-series commitment. With Gellar’s endorsement and Grace’s rising star power, anticipation for the reboot is already heating up.
