Nicolas Cage is officially stepping into a live-action Spider-Man role—but not the one fans might expect.

Cage is set to star in Amazon’s upcoming series Spider-Noir, a dark, stylized spin-off inspired by his scene-stealing voice performance in 2018’s Into the Spider-Verse. This time, however, he won’t just be lending his voice. He’ll bring the trench coat–wearing vigilante to life on screen.

The character is a noir-inspired variant of Spider-Man, depicted as a brooding private detective navigating a shadowy 1930s world. The tone is worlds away from Tom Holland’s upbeat Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayal. Early images from the series lean heavily into classic black-and-white crime aesthetics, drawing inspiration from vintage detective films.

Lamorne Morris and Li Jun Li join Cage in the cast, alongside additional supporting characters created specifically for the series. Showrunner Oren Uziel has described the story as centered around a tight-knit investigative trio, with Cage’s character at the center of the action.

Cage originally voiced the Spider-Man Noir character in Into the Spider-Verse, instantly becoming a fan favorite for his exaggerated, hard-boiled delivery. The new series marks the first time the character will appear in live action.

Spider-Noir exists entirely outside the MCU timeline. Tom Holland remains Marvel’s primary Spider-Man and is set to return in Spider-Man: Brand New Day in 2026. The Amazon series takes place in its own alternate reality, meaning it will not intersect with Holland’s version of Peter Parker.

For longtime fans, it’s an unexpected but fitting evolution. Cage playing a brooding, old-school detective version of Spider-Man may sound unusual—but given his history with eccentric roles, it might be exactly the kind of casting twist that works.
