Anne Hathaway’s name is suddenly trending online after the latest batch of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents was released.
Following the U.S. Department of Justice’s recent document dump tied to Epstein, social media lit up with claims that the Oscar-winning actress was somehow linked to a Bill Gates fundraiser in a way that suggested deeper involvement. A widely shared video on X racked up millions of views, alleging Hathaway was specifically requested as a high-profile guest for Gates.
The reality is far less dramatic.
Hathaway’s name appears in a 2014 email written by Epstein. In that message, he floated a list of potential celebrity invitees for a fundraiser connected to Bill Gates. The email was sent to Boris Nikoli?, an associate of Gates. There is no evidence that Gates personally requested Hathaway, no indication that she was contacted about the event, and no proof that she attended.
Despite that, online speculation quickly filled in gaps that the documents themselves do not support. As with many high-profile names mentioned in Epstein’s communications, context matters. Being referenced in correspondence does not equate to participation or wrongdoing.
The Justice Department’s January 30, 2026 release included millions of pages tied to Epstein’s network of elite contacts, spanning politics, business, royalty, and entertainment. Among the many figures referenced were former President Trump and others who had past associations with Epstein long before his criminal conduct became widely known.
As the internet continues to dissect the documents line by line, Hathaway has not publicly addressed the viral claims. For now, the documents show only that her name was included in a proposed guest list email, not that she was involved in any event or activity linked to Epstein.
